The Merrell Moab 2 GTX Waterproof is an excellent choice for hikers who prefer easy to moderate day hikes, where this shoe provides ample comfort and support. For longer hikes, they might be a little too heavy. By longer walks and hikes, I mean all-day, multi-day hikes cover 20+ miles per day. For a one-off all day they are fine.

Right out of the box, these felt great. The Vibram soles gained purchase on most surfaces tested, and the shoe offers sufficient durability. If you prefer day hikes, but require traction for all varieties of trail conditions, this is your hiking shoe. It's also one of the warmest models you can get, suited for cool to cold weather hikes.
